JB & Associates was retained by the City of Los Angeles to prepare the Construction Area signing and striping plans for the construction of the over-the-street archway spanning across the Normandi Avenue and Olympic Boulevard intersection. The project is adjacent to the Koreatown Pavilion Gardens and in close proximity to the Seoul Peace Park, LAUSD primary center and a recently completed senior center
The project required design of temporary signing and striping plans for the full closure of this major intersection over a weekend and temporary lane closures during the weekdays.
As part of the project, JB & Associates analyzed the existing traffic conditions and prepared the detour plans to re-route traffic and major transit services around the vicinity of the closure.
Given the significant impacts to transit riders and pedestrians in the area, JB & Associates prepared and presented detailed re-routing plans to the City of Los Angeles Transit Corridor Transportation Management Committee for approval.
The project is designed to create open space in a vacated portion of Normandie Avenue between Irolo Street and San Marino Street in Koreatown.
The portion of Normandie Avenue will be converted into a one-way street with multipurpose pedestrian spaces for neighborhood gatherings and community events. There will be bulb-out islands with landscaping, pedestrian sidewalks and angle parking.
JB & Associates provided traffic engineering technical assistance in the design of the Normandie street and also prepared the traffic control for pedestrian and vehicle access in the area according the California Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD) standards. A final geometric channelization design has been prepared for the one-way northbound traffic operation on Normandie Avenue between Irolo Street and San Marino Street. The plans for the project is currently being reviewed by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation Permit Plan Review Section.
JB & Associates was retained by Glendale Public Works Community Development Department to prepare a major Traffic Impact Study for the Environmental Impact Review for the Armenian American Cultural Center (AACC), located in Downtown Glendale and the City of Glendale’s Arts & Entertainment District near the corner of Colorado Street and Brand Boulevard.
JB & Associates developed unique trip generation rates for the museum and using ICU methodology and PTV Vistro software to conduct level of service calculations. The Project also included evaluation of access points for the project’s proposed parking structure and recommend mitigation measures to reduce project impacts.
JB & Associates was retained by Long Beach Public Works to prepare a comprehensive Traffic Engineering study for the City of Long Beach Public Works Engineering Bureau.
As part of the study, JB & Associates evaluated and developed actions plans for the following key areas: Traffic Signal Operations, Traffic Sign Special Event Management, Traffic Signal Timing Policy, Signal Timing Software, Assessment of TMC Operations, and Traffic Operations and Engineering Staffing.
For each of the assessment area listed above, JB & Associates provided technical assistance and expertise to the Traffic Engineering and Operations staff to implement, monitor and maintain the City’s traffic signals using proven industry procedures and standards currently in practice in comparable municipalities.
JB & Associates reviewed, analyzed and prepared the Traffic Signal Timing and Operations Policy and Procedures for the City’s 500 traffic signals.
JB & Associates was retained by Glendale Public Works Engineering Division to prepare traffic signal modification plans, signing and striping plans for the following three major intersections as a result of City of Glendale’s requirement for new development project at 201 N. Lexington Dr.
- Central Avenue x Lexington Drive
- Orange Street x Lexington Drive
- Orange Street x Milford Street
The design work included relocation of traffic signal poles due to curb modifications, changes in poles and pull box locations, installation of new conduit runs with wiring, design of new ADA handicapped ramps, and preparation of signing and striping plans. This project also included street design of traffic control plans, removal of on-street parking, and one-way operation of Orange Street and Lexington Drive.
JB & Associates prepared a major Traffic Impact study for a 400 unit apartment project that was approved by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.
Traffic impact study included Intersection Capacity Analysis in accordance with the City of Los Angeles Traffic Impact Study guidelines including critical analysis of intersections adjacent to the project site in terms of right-of-way dedication, special design modifications of Sepulveda Boulevard median, traffic signals and ADA wheelchair ramps to meet the City’s design requirements.
